Pre and Post Holi Skincare Tips – Save Your Skin from Harmful Colours

Holi colours are the most damaging products that can harm your skin. Commercially available colours contain synthetic dyes, heavy metals like lead, mercury, chromium, and harsh pigments mixed with glass powder or sand.

These harmful ingredients can strip the skin’s natural oils, trigger acne, and cause irritation and itching in the skin. Thus, it’s very important to do skincare before and after Holi equally. Let’s know the pre-Holi skincare tips along with the post-Holi skincare tips in this blog.

Pre-Holi Skincare Tips

Here are the pre-Holi skincare tips that help to save your skin from harmful colours-

  • Deep Moisturise Before Playing: Use a thick and hydrating moisturiser and body lotion on your face, neck, hands, arms, and legs. If you don’t have moisturiser or have dry skin, you can prefer natural oils as well, like coconut oil, olive oil, almond oil, or other oils as well.
  • Don’t Skip Sunscreen: Apply Sunscreen at least 20 min before stepping into holi ground. Because Holi is mainly played outdoors, that makes your skin vulnerable to UV damage. This cream also helps you to prevent tanning, sunburn and pigmentation.
  • Avoid Chemical Treatments Before Holi: The most important thing that must be in mind is that you must avoid chemical treatment at least 7 to 10 days before Holi. This chemical treatment could be chemical peels, laser treatments, facial clean-ups, and waxing. This skin treatment makes the skin sensitive after the procedure, and these harmful colours can damage your skin badly.
  • Protect Sensitive Areas Carefully: You need to protect or take extra care of your sensitive areas by applying lip balms on your lips, petroleum jelly around the eyes, mouth, and eyes. Most importantly, if you have any cuts on your body or fingers, cover small cuts or wounds with a waterproof bandage.
  • Wear Protective Clothing: Applying moisturiser and oil is not enough, you need to choose clothes that cover your full skin equally important. Wear full-sleeve cloth, choose cotton fabrics, and cover your neck and arms.

Post Holi Skincare Tips

Keep in mind these below mentioned holi skincare tips –

  • Prevent Acne & Breakouts After Colour Exposure: Applying harmful colour can cause acne and breakouts, so to avoid this problem, use a gentle cleanser and avoid touching your face and nose frequently.
  • Soothe Skin with Aloe Vera Care: Use herbal aloe vera gel after 2-3 days, it helps to calm your skin.
  • Handle Rashes the Right Way: In case you have skin rashes and allergies, avoid self-medication and first consult with a doctor. You can use a fragrance-free moisturiser.
  • Avoid Hot Water After Holi: Most of the person do big mistakes, mainly using hot water after holi that can be dangerous, so avoid using hot water for bathing.
  • Stay Away from Harsh Scrubbing Methods: Many people use harsh brushes and hard soap to remove colours that can be very harmful or can make skin more allergic. Therefore I must avoid this method.

Conclusion

Holi is the festival of colour and the real meaning of enjoyment. But nowadays, there are no herbal colours on the market. These colours are mainly made from harmful materials that may cause many hazardous effects and allergies. But if you play Holi using pre and post holi tips, you can play it with enjoyment.

Remember, skincare is not only about fixing your skin, but the right practice helps you avoid many problematic issues. So, use oil, moisturisers, full sleeve cloths, and avoid chemical treatment before Holi. Give the love of care to your skin that it truly deserves.
